Job Purpose: Responsible for the coordination and day-to-day implementation of the Racine Zoo’s

2024 Summer Camp Counselor

Reports to: Conservation Education Manager

Job Classification: Seasonal - Full Time

Start/End Date: Camp runs Mondays - Friday from June 17th - August 23rd except July 1 - 5, with mandatory training the week prior to start (exact dates/times TBD)

Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of a Camp Counselor position at the Racine Zoo is to create a fun and engaging summer camp experience for our guests. This includes interacting with the campers (ages 3-13), overseeing the day to day operations of the summer camp, creating unique educational opportunities and providing information about our animals and exhibits. The Camp Counselor is responsible for ensuring guest and animal safety, while assisting with summer camp and working in various public positions throughout the Zoo.

Seasonal Animal Care Specialist

Job Classification: Seasonal

Start/End Date and Hours: Hours would be anywhere from 7am – 8pm, ranging from 24 – 38 hours per week. Positions could start as early as the end of April, and continue until the end of October.

Job Purpose: The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for daily husbandry of animals as it relates to the animal’s physiological and physiological well being, and for the general maintenance of grounds and exhibits. This can include, but is not limited to, diet preparation, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, observations, safe enrichment presentation, medical treatments, safe disinfecting methods, positive guest interactions, pushing and lifting heavy loads, and assisting with dishes and deliveries, or anything else asked by the management team.

Racine Zoo AmeriCorps Program Member

Reports to: AmeriCorps Program Manager

Start/End Date: September 2023 through May 31, 2024

Hours: 32 hours per week over a 10-month term of service

Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of an AmeriCorps program member is to provide direct services to Racine Zoo AmeriCorps program participants via educational interpretive programming, as well as effective delivery of pre- and post-intervention assessments. You will assist in creation and delivery of educational interpretive programming as well as animal handling and assist in maintenance of trained behaviors. You will facilitate volunteer recruitment and training and write reflections on service for Zoo and AmeriCorps publications. You'll also need to act as a positive role model to students in the Racine Zoo AmeriCorps program.
