Do you want to bring a chinchilla to a kindergarten classroom one day and clean up after a rhino the next? Become an AmeriCorps Member at the Racine Zoo! Bring your passion, and we'll provide the training. As an AmeriCorps member, you would get to bring free programs to the students of Racine, handle ambassador animals, and help out our animal care specialists.
 
Member will serve about 32 hours/week from August 29, 2022 through June 9, 2023. In addition to the necessary trainings, AmeriCorps Members receive a living stipend of $830/month paid bi-weekly and an education award of $4,546.50 (subject to change dependent upon federal funding) upon completion of service. Education awards can be used towards current student loans or future continuing education.
 
On May 14th between 11am - 4pm, bring your resume and cover letter to the Racine Zoo Administration Office at 200 Goold Street (down the block from the zoo main entrance) for an on-site interview to become a Racine Zoo AmeriCorps Member.

Seasonal Animal Care Specialist

Job Classification: Seasonal

Start/End Date and Hours: Hours would be anywhere from 7am – 8pm, ranging from 24 – 38 hours per week. Positions could start as early as the end of April, and continue until the end of October.

Job Purpose: The Animal Care Specialist is responsible for daily husbandry of animals as it relates to the animal’s physiological and physiological well being, and for the general maintenance of grounds and exhibits. This can include, but is not limited to, diet preparation, exhibit cleaning and maintenance, observations, safe enrichment presentation, medical treatments, safe disinfecting methods, positive guest interactions, pushing and lifting heavy loads, and assisting with dishes and deliveries, or anything else asked by the management team.

2022 Camp Counselor 

Reports to: Curator of Animal Care and Conservation Education

Job Classification: Seasonal – Full Time

Start/End Date: Camp runs Monday – Friday from June 13 – August 19 except July 4 – 8, with a mandatory training day on June 9.

Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of a Camp Counselor position at the Racine Zoo is to create a fun and engaging summer camp experience for our guests. This includes interacting with the campers (ages 3-13), overseeing the day to day operations of the summer camp, creating unique educational opportunities and providing information about our animals and exhibits. The Camp Counselor is responsible for ensuring guest and animal safety, while assisting with summer camp and working in various public positions throughout the Zoo.

Racine Zoo AmeriCorps Program Member

Reports to: AmeriCorps Program Coordinator and Curator of Animal Care and Conservation Education

Start/End Date: August 29, 2022 through June 9, 2023

Hours: 32 hours per week over a 10-month term of service

Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of an AmeriCorps program member is to provide direct services to Racine Zoo AmeriCorps program participants via educational interpretive programming, as well as effective delivery of pre- and post-intervention assessments. You will assist in creation and delivery of educational interpretive programming as well as animal handling and assist in maintenance of trained behaviors. You will facilitate volunteer recruitment and training and write reflections on service for Zoo and AmeriCorps publications. You'll also need to act as a positive role model to students in the Racine Zoo AmeriCorps program.

Food Service Worker in the Grill

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Classification: Seasonal – Part time

Job Purpose: We are looking for someone with a friendly and outgoing personality that is motivated for excellence and is not afraid to work hard. This position is responsible for creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for the Racine Zoo guests in our food service locations. Tasks include opening and closing duties, running the register, preparing food items, maintaining a clean environment throughout the building, excellent communication with the leadership team and excellent customer service to our guests.
